(Memphis) Whether in person or online, sign up is finally underway for the Affordable Care Act.
“Once we have trained individuals, people can come in and actually sit down with a financial counselor and they can work through the marketplace, help them navigate,” explains Amanda Chambers of Christ Community Health Services.
It’s one of the local agencies providing in person assistance.
However, before their work could even get started, crooks were already ahead of the game.
Reports have surfaced about numerous scams targeting people who need to sign up for health coverage.
A few tips to consider:
- The government will not call you, send emails, or knock on your door and ask you to sign up for coverage. So don’t give out any personal, financial information.
- There is no application fee or charge to get help with the process. If anyone asks for money to help you sign up, it’s a scam.
- There’s no real rush to sign up. People who are eligible have until March of 2014, then enrollment opens up.
In addition, folks who already have coverage don’t have to do anything, or get a new card.
