(Southaven, MS) Ferris Wheels and bumper cars are popping up at the grounds around Southaven’s Landers Center.
Preparations are wrapping up for the Mid-South Fair.
This year, organizers say they’re taking another step toward giving us the fair we’ve always known in years past.
”We’re bringing some things back that we used to have. We’re happy to announce we’re bringing livestock back this year,” said fair Manager Jesse Johnson.
Goats, cattle and poultry are back, along with cooking contests, and student art competitions.
They’ll join the youth talent contest and all the rides and food starting Friday.
The fair kicks off a big weekend.
Opening night, the fair has competition, not only from a Widespread Panic concert at the Snowden Grove Amphitheater, but two big Southaven football games.
Southaven police say they’re ready.
”You won’t notice all of us are out, but you’ll notice the presence will be good at all venues,” said Lieutenant Mark Little, who says he’ll have all hands on deck this weekend across town.
”We’re obviously gonna bring in our employees that are off, they’re coming in to work an extra detail. I know the Sheriff’s Office has offered us assistance”.
It should make for a safer time for all.
This year, every day is wristband day at the fair, and on Friday, students 17 and under get in free until 4pm.
Fair organizers say they plan to keep adding old favorites back every year, but this year’s opening night, they’re not afraid to compete with other events.
”…and on top of that, we’re still the best show in town,” exclaimed Johnson.
The fair runs until September 29th.
