(Portland, OR) The owners of a bakery in the Portland area say they’ve been forced to close their business because they declined to make a wedding cake for a lesbian couple.

Melissa and Aaron Klein say they have been threatened and boycotted since turning away the couple last February.

Numerous websites and social media outlets have been flooded with stories and posts by gay rights advocates and their supporters.

The owners say they have never turned away a customer to their store but did decline the cake job due to their religious beliefs that a marriage is made up of a man and a woman.

The lesbian couple filed a complaint with the state which had launched an investigation.

Protestors have been outside the store regularly and the Klein’s said other businesses have been threatened with boycotts if they did business with Sweet Cakes by Melissa which has greatly hurt their bakery.

For now, the couple will move their business to their home.
