(Cleveland, OH) Ariel Castro, accused of raping and holding three women captive in Cleveland for close to a decade, has agreed to a plea deal that recommends he be sentenced to life in prison without parole.

Castro was charged with 977 counts, including aggravated murder on suspicion of ending the pregnancy of one of his captives.

Castro was arrested after one of the women, 27-year-old Amanda Berry, staged a daring escape with the aid of neighbors.

In addition to Berry and a 6-year-old daughter apparently born to her during her captivity, police say Georgina “Gina” DeJesus, 23, and Michelle Knight, 32, also were freed.
