Memphis, TN– Chris Carpenter, out all season with a nerve issue in his neck and shoulder, struggled in his second rehab start with the Redbirds.

Carpenter lasted just 3 1/3 innings, giving up 9 hits and four runs while striking out just two.  He also walked two.  Of his 74 pitches, 49 went for strikes but the 3-time All-Star and 2005 Cy Young award winner couldn’t make quality pitches in a loss to Oklahoma City.

Carpenter will now return to St. Louis but is expected to be back at Autozone Park to make another rehab start for the Redbirds on Thursday night.
