(Collierville, TN) At the Carriage Crossing mall in Collierville, it was easy to see that this wasn't your usual hustle and bustle of shoppers going in and coming out of stores.

Instead, Collierville police officers were there after two bold bandits robbed a man in broad daylight Tuesday near the Lane Bryant and Macy's.

Mark Miller is employed at a plumbing company that does work in Collierville.

"Collierville is usually pretty safe, but criminals venture out of their neighborhood to do crime. So, it doesn't shock me," Miller said.

Police say the victim was doing construction work in the parking lot when two men tried to take his wallet. The worker wasn't injured, and the would-be thieves weren't able to take his belongings.

However, the robbers did take off in their getaway car and damaged other vehicles as they tried to leave. One witness says another driver rammed the robbers to stop them.

Ann Endicott lives and shops in Collierville.

"It's not supposed to happen anywhere, but least of all this is our neighborhood. It's not supposed to happen here," Endicott said.

The suspects' escape was short-lived. Police blanketed the area on the ground and in the air. Memphis police provided a helicopter to help track them down.

The robbers' luck ran out when their getaway vehicle broke down on Fleming Road, where one man was arrested. The other robber tried to run away, but he was caught near Shelby Drive and Reynolds.

Still, shoppers and others who work at the mall say they will now be even more watchful of their surroundings.

"Be aware of your surroundings. That's number one and take somebody with you. Don't be alone," Endicott said.

"It makes me want to look over my back a little more," Miller said.

David Yancy II, 30, is charged with robbery and evading arrest. He has a $3 million bond.

Patrick Riley, 26, is charged with robbery, reckless endangerment, aggravated assault, vandalism more than $500, evading arrest (motor vehicle) and evading arrest (on foot). His bond is also $3 million.
