(Millington, TN) A 20-year-old man confessed Tuesday evening to attacking a female convenience store clerk early that same morning just outside Millington.

Jose Flores is charged with criminal attempt aggravated robbery and kidnapping. Officials say he could face additional charges later.

The woman was working alone at the Mapco Mart at Navy and Bethuel Roads when Flores tried to sexually assault her.

The victim told deputies Flores came inside the Mapco and left, but came back a few minutes later and dragged her to the back of the store.

“He almost immediately grabbed her kicking and screaming. He tried to take her to one of the bathrooms where he tried to criminally assault her,” said Chip Washington with the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators say Flores  punched the clerk and slammed her head against a wall, but she fought back until he gave up and left the store.

“I don’t think he was expecting what he got, and what he got was woman who wasn’t going to be a victim, and somebody who was going to fight back, and she fought to the point where he said ‘I quit,'” Washington said.

The attack was all captured on the store’s surveillance cameras.
