Man Fatally Shot After Firing At Officers

(Memphis) A man who apparently fired at officers has died after being shot multiple times.

A police officer was involved in the shooting in the 5000 block of Parkside Monday evening.

Dispatch says they had received a call regarding an armed mental patient at that location. Police also say someone at the home called 911, and then quickly hung up.

Neighbors then called to tell police the man was armed and to inform authorities that the man was a mental health consumer.

Police say the man was hiding in the bushes when officers arrived, then came out and began shooting. Neighbors say the heard several shots fired.

Authorities used metal detectors to look for bullets after the shooting. Crime scene investigators were also at the location.

Authorities said Tuesday the man was 33-year-old Johnny Taylor.
