(Memphis) Powerful winds gusts were more than 60 miles an hour in different parts of the city Friday morning.

“We heard the wind howl. It made the door move. The wind was coming through pretty hard. It was almost like a train sound. I was worried for a second,” said Greg Miller, with CK’s Coffee Shop.

The wind was so strong, it snapped a huge tree on Highland near Walker.

Crews spent much of the day cleaning it up and redirecting traffic on the busy street.

Miller works right down the street from where the tree snapped, “We heard the fire truck go down the street and stop right here. We were concerned."

CK’s stayed open.

Miller says regular customers still came despite the downed tree, “Luckily it was just a tree and apparently, no one was hurt."

Winds and rain also rattled a traffic light loose at Airways and Ketchum, causing a bit of a traffic hiccup.

The storm left more than 8000 Mid-Southerners in the dark at one point of the day.
