(Bartlett, TN) Residents packed a local church for a major pep rally in support of creating a city school district.
"This is going to be expensive," said Bartlett Mayor Keith McDonald. "Do the citizens of Bartlett want this?"
The crowd screamed yes. Attendees were collecting yard signs, donating money and sharing opinions as to why this was their only option.
"They already messed up their school system, now they want to mess up ours," said Darlene Flanagan.
The words didn't bother Shelby County School Board member Kenneth Whallum.
"They told the truth, you have a 23-member school board that operates like it has no clue about the children in the classroom," Whallum said.
Other suburbs are partnering with former county schools chief John Aitken to build their new schools, but Bartlett said they're further along in the process and don't need his assistance.
They just want residents to get out and vote in favor of the city district.
