(Memphis) Joe Willis, who is in The MED recovering from surgery and in police custody,  has been charged with two counts of Aggravated Assault, Aggravated Burglary, Evading Arrest, and Theft of Property Under $500.

A Memphis police officer shot Willis Saturday after police say Willis pointed a shotgun at officers.

Police have identified the officers involved as Fredrick Reading and Officer Kimberly Shannon.

When Willis did not drop the weapon, police say they shot him once.

Willis took off on foot but was later captured.

Officers answered an alarm call in the 2900 block of Wedge Cove around 3:30 a.m. Saturday morning when they encountered Willis.

Nationally, police have encountered an increasing number of people who threaten them with weapons.

The officer involved in the shooting is on routine leave.
