Memphis, TN– Memphis junior lefty Erik Schoenrock was drafted by the San Diego Padres in the 11th round of the MLB Draft on Saturday.

Schoenrock, the 2013 Conference USA Pitcher of the Year, had a breakout season in 2013. After injuries limited his first two seasons, Schoenrock posted a 7-4 record with a 3.02 ERA this season. The Collierville, Tenn., native and son of head coach Daron Schoenrock, tossed five complete games and logged 98.1 innings on the mound. Schoenrock struck out 86 batters and walked 29 while opponents hit .227 against.

Most impressive in his 2013 season was a 3-0 record with a 1.17 ERA in league games. Schoenrock logged seven or more innings in seven of his 15 starts. For his career, Schoenrock was 11-10 with a 4.03 ERA and 132 strikeouts in 154 innings pitched.

Drafted in the 11th round, Schoenrock is the 26th player drafted in the top 11 rounds of the draft. He is the second U of M player selected this season giving Memphis two or more draft picks for the fourth-straight season. Joining LHP Sam Moll (3rd round – Rockies), Memphis has two pitchers selected for the first time since 2011 and seventh time since 1994.
