(Memphis) First responders can have their dogs and cats vaccinated for $5 on Saturday, June 22, between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m. at 935 Farm Road.

The Humane Society of Memphis and Shelby County is offering the discount for military personnel, police officers, firefighters, EMTs and paramedics.

“We want to thank members of the armed forces, police officers, firefighters, EMTs and paramedics for their life-saving work with this small gesture of appreciation,” Kerry Sneed, community outreach and humane education manager at HSMSC, said.

Microchips will be available for $25 per pet. Rabies licenses will also be offered at $6 for spayed/neutered dogs and $16 for dogs that are not spayed/neutered.

Dogs need to be on a leash and cats need to be in a carrier. Pet owners must show identification from their first-responder occupation.

The vaccination event is part of the humane society’s Project STOP (Solving the Overpopulation Problem). Last year, 728 pets were vaccinated, 577 pets were spayed or neutered, and 123 pets received microchips through the program.
