Area Teams Go 4-4 in NCAA Regionals

Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Arkansas and Vanderbilt all won their NCAA Regional games on Saturday…staying alive on the Road to Omaha.

Raleigh, NC– Austin Anderson went 4-for-5 as Ole Miss scored two in the 7th and 4 more in the 8th of an 8-4 over Binghamton in an elimination game.  The Rebels get a rematch with William and Mary in another elimination game.

Manhattan, KS– Ryne Stanek and 2 relievers combined on a 2-hitter as Arkansas staved off elimination with a 3-1 win over Wichita State.  The Hogs move on to take on Bryant.

Starkville, MS– Brett Pirtle’s 2-run single to right proved to be the game-winning hit as Mississippi State rallied from a 2-0 deficit to beat South Alabama 6-2 and stay unbeaten at home.  The Bullies are one win away from advancing to the Super Regional round.

Nashville, TN– Vanderbilt’s top 3 hitters, Tony Kemp, Xavier Turner and Mike Yastrzemski, combine to go 10-of-16 with 5 RBI’s as the Commodores move to 2-0 and within one win of clinching a berth in a Super Regional…beating Illinois 10-4.
