Memphis, TN-Memphis Grizzlies center Marc Gasol was named to the 2012-13 All-NBA Second Team, the league announced today, his first career All-NBA selection.

Gasol (7-1, 264) displayed his all-around versatility in leading Memphis to a franchise-record 56 wins during the regular season, averaging 14.1 points, 7.8 rebounds, a career-high 4.0 assists, 1.00 steals and 1.74 blocks on .494 shooting in 35.0 minutes in 80 games (all starts). He was one of three NBA players (Kevin Durant, Josh Smith) to tally at least 600 rebounds, 300 assists and 100 blocks this season.

As he has done in each season since joining the team, the 28-year-old led the club in blocks per game, anchoring a Grizzlies defense that allowed the fewest points per game to opponents (89.3) of any NBA team since the 2005-06 season. He also paced the team in free throw percentage, shooting a career-best .848 from the foul line.

After guiding the Grizzlies to their most-successful regular season ever, Gasol has posted 17.5 points, 8.3 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 2.15 blocks on .463 shooting in 40.0 minutes over 13 postseason games, helping Memphis advance to the Western Conference Finals for the first time in franchise history.

Memphis eliminated the Los Angeles Clippers in the first round of the Western Conference Playoffs, becoming the first team in NBA history to win four consecutive games by double digits in a postseason series after losing the first two games of the series. Gasol averaged 17.8 points and 9.0 rebounds on .510 shooting in 37.3 minutes in the final four games (all Grizzlies victories).

The Grizzlies then ousted the defending Western Conference Champion Oklahoma City Thunder in five games in the Western Conference Semifinals. Gasol powered Memphis with 19.4 points and 8.4 rebounds on .486 shooting in 41.9 minutes during the conference semifinals, scoring 20-or-more points in each of the first four matchups.

For his efforts, Gasol has received numerous accolades this season, including the 2012-13 NBA Defensive Player of the Year Award and a selection to the 2012-13 NBA All-Defensive Second Team within the past month.
