(DeSoto County, MS) Two DeSoto County high schools have made Newsweek magaazine’s list of top schools in the country.

DeSoto Central High and Center Hill high made the top grades according to school Superintendent Milton Kuykendall.

The magazine chose the two DeSoto schools, among others, for their top academic standards and number of students to move on to college from the South.

Center Hill in Olive Branch made number 1617, while DeSoto Central in Southaven made number 1679.

”The Newsweek criteria is based on college readiness and that’s something that we stress here, and I know Center Hill stresses that also” said DeSoto Central Principal Cory Usleton.

”Seems like we all have our minds set on one thing and that’s to learn and we have a good time and we do different things” explained DeSoto Central honor student Shelby Harris.

In Shelby County, Tennessee Houston, White Station, Germantown and Collierville all made the list as well.
