Voters in towns and cities across Mississippi will head to the polls today for municipal and primary elections.

There’s no doubt that the hottest race on today’s ballot is the primary for Southaven mayor.

There are six Republicans and one Democrat running in today’s primary election.

The winners will face incumbent mayor Greg Davis, who is running as an independent in next month’s general election.

Republicans running are:

  • Former count supervisor Gerald Clifton
  • Current county supervisor Mark Gardner
  • Southaven police officer Jerald Wheeler
  • Safety officer Josh Anderson
  • Financial analyst Christopher Klass
  • Insurance agent Darren Musselwhite

The lone Democrat is retired Memphis police officer Coria B. Williams.

Voters in Southaven will also be picking candidates for the board of aldermen.

Primaries will also be held for mayoral and aldermanic races in Horn Lake, Olive Branch, Walls and Hernando today.

Polls are open from 7.
