New Info: Memphis Police Officer Hits Pole
(Memphis) It was unusual sight for drivers along Elvis Presley Blvd on Monday night.
“I can certainly say that it was a little shocking to me to see one of my squad cars half way up a pole,” said Memphis Police Director Toney Armstrong.
He was caught off guard when he opened an email during a meeting.
It was a wild single-car accident involving one of his officers.
“I’m positive that the participants of that meeting could tell by the look on my face that I was shocked,” said Armstrong.

While some of you are asking how something like it could happen, others were asking why police spent time writing tickets to passersby who stopped to take photos.
Police would only tell News Channel 3 officers write tickets when drivers slow traffic.
But, really, who could resist? It’s not every day you see something like that.
“Every time you get to a point on this job when you say I’ve seen absolutely everything, nothing could shock or surprise you, then you get something that shocks and surprises you,” said Armstrong.
