(Washington, D.C.) Numerous news agencies are reporting President Barack Obama plans to return some of his salary.

The President is expected to return 5% of his salary to the Treasury which amounts to roughly $20,000.

The action is a nod to furloughed federal workers.

Recently the President was criticized for the $100,000 plus cost of security for his daughters to go on Spring Break during the Sequester.

Tuesday, Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel announced he was giving up the portion of his salary that would have been cut if he had been subject to the same work furlough as thousands of department personnel under the mandatory federal budget cuts.

Hagel, who earns $199,700 annually, will write a check to the Treasury for up to 14 days of salary, according to Pentagon press secretary George Little.
