(Memphis) Shelby County Sheriff Deputies are investigating a deadly shooting at 4279 King’s Valley Rd. E. near the city of Memphis boundary.

Sheriff’s Department Spokesman Chip Washington said a man was shot several times, as he sat in the passenger side seat of a car.

Washington said it happened around 8:00p.m., shortly after a couple came to the home in their car.

The woman had gotten out of the car and was entering the house, as a suspect walked up to the car and fired the shots at the man in the passenger seat.

Several witnesses who were outside at the time helped deputies identify the possible gunman.

After a short pursuit, deputies located him and took him into custody.

As of 10:00p.m., the Shelby County Sheriff's Office had not yet identified either the suspect or the victim.

The victim's stepdaughter spoke to News Channel 3, saying her mother and stepfather had just come home and were unloading groceries when the shooting took place.

She said her stepfather was a funny and kind man, and she was distraught at hearing the news.

A neighbor, Caralyn Brown, said she knows the suspected gunman and was shocked to hear he could have killed a man.

Brown said the suspect had even played with her grandchildren.

She believed the incident occurred over "harsh words."
