Memphis, TN–  The University of Memphis wrapped up the opening segment of spring camp on Thursday, donning full pads for the first time and going through a workout which included an intrasquad scrimmage.

After beginning spring camp on Feb. 28th, the Tigers concluded the first third of its workouts with Practice No. 5 at the Billy J. Murphy Athletic Complex. The team will have an opportunity to enjoy the university’s spring break during the coming week before returning to the practice field on March 19th.

Second-year head coach Justin Fuente said he thought he would see both good things and bad things when the coaching staff reviews tape of Thursday’s workout and pointed to some positives.

“I thought we were a little bit more physical than we have been in the past on both sides of the ball,” he said. “We still have a long way to go with that. We had some more big collisions than we have had in the past. Overall, a lot of work to do on both sides of the ball.”

Returning linebacker Anthony Brown recovered two fumbles during the day while the offense was highlighted by a 65-yard touchdown pass from redshirt freshman Paxton Lynch to midyear transfer Joe Craig.

When the Tigers return from spring break they will have three weeks of three practices culminating in the April 6th spring game. The team will utilize one remaining practice date the week following the spring game.
