(Memphis) An Orange Mound woman is recovering after being brutally attacked Saturday inside her home.

Wilma Green, who is 78-years-old, was rushed to The MED after she was stabbed in her throat, stomach and hands.

Police arrested 49-year-old William Heath just minutes after the attack, not far from the woman's home on Carrington.

He has been charged with attempted second-degree murder and especially aggravated robbery.

Neighbors say Green has always helped everyone in the neighborhood, including Heath.

They say Green received her social security check on Friday and that may be what Heath was after.

"It's just shocking to hear that people get that vicious and especially with elderly people who are defenseless," said Alfred Jenkins.

Heath is locked up on $150,000 bond. For more news updates from the field follow me on twitter.
