2 Officers Hurt In Crash

(Memphis) Two Memphis police officers were injured in a crash Saturday morning.

The incident happened around 6:30 a.m. on Airways Blvd. underneath I-240.

Memphis Police Public Information Officer Alyssa Macon-Moore tells WREG that a 1993 Oldsmobile Cutlass was traveling northbound on Airways, South of I-240 when it struck the police cruiser.

The officers had pulled over to assist with another car accident. Macon-Moore says the strobe (blue) lights were activated. One officer was inside the car and another was standing outside when they were hit.

Both officers were taken to the hospital in non-critical condition.

The passenger in the Oldsmobile was also taken to the hospital in non-critical condition.

The driver, 22-year-old Edwin Lopez, was arrested and among others faces DUI and Reckless Driving charges. He was not injured.
