Memphis, TN-As the University of Memphis gets ready to leave Conference USA for the Big East more changes are on the way.
Big East presidents and athletic directors will meet in Atlanta on Friday and are expected to allow the league’s seven Catholic basketball schools to leave this summer and take the Big East name with them in exchange for millions of dollars.
That means Tigers fans won’t get that one season playing against the likes of traditional basketball powers Georgetown, Villanova and Marquette, who are leaving the Big East to form their own basketball league. That new league is also expected to get Madison Square Garden as home for its conference basketball tournament.
MSG has hosted the Big East tournament for many years. Memphis would reportedly be a frontrunner to host the conference tournament of the new-look Big East or whatever it’s going to be called.
