(Memphis) For the first time, WREG News Channel 3 made a clean sweep, taking first place in every local newscast, according to household ratings results released by Nielsen Media Research for the 28-day period from January 31thru February 27.

WREG has long been a ratings leader, often winning in the morning, at noon, 4:00, 4:30, 5:00 and 10PM. This is the first time WREG has added the 6PM newscast to its list of number ones, while continuing its dominance in all other time periods.

WREG’s gains come at the expense of once-dominant WMC–a fact that WREG’s Bruce Moore doesn’t take lightly.  “I feel a responsibility to every single viewer in our viewing area.  I want to give them the important breaking news and weather coverage that keeps them safe, helps them plan their day, or both.  And make it all clear and easy to understand,” Moore said.

WREG won the entire morning news period from 4:30 to 7 a.m., beating WMC, Fox 13 and WPTY.  At 6 a.m., WREG achieved a 7.7 rating to WMC’s 7.4, WHBQ’s 5.4 and WPTY’s 1.6.

One rating point equal approximately 6,628 households, or approximately 17,233 people.

WREG’s News Channel 3 Live at 9:00 achieved a 4.5 rating, beating WHBQ’s 3.7 for the same time period, and topping NBC’s The Today Show, who also achieved a 3.7.

At noon, WREG achieved a 6.9 to WMC’s 4.8.  At 4 p.m., WREG had 6.7 to WMC’s 4.5; 4:30 p.m., WREG scored a 6.9 to WMC’s 4.5.  At 5 p.m., WREG had an 8.9 to WMC’s 7.6, WHBQ’s 4.8 and WPTY’s 2.1.  WREG tied for number one at 6PM, with both WREG and WMC achieving a 9.8.

For the all-important 10 p.m. news, WREG achieved a 10.8 rating to WMC’s 8.3 WHBQ’s 3.7, and WPTY’s 2.0.

WREG also had the highest rated local sports program, Friday Sports Overtime, achieving an 8.0 rating to WMC’s 7.5.

President and General Manager Ron Walter said, “Our team is second to none.  They dig deep and report with excellence, always keeping viewer interests top of mind. I’m proud of the WREG News Channel 3 teamwork, and spirit. And most importantly, we all are truly appreciative of the trust viewers have placed in us, and we will work hard to keep it.”
