(Southaven, MS) Donna Wadford put Mississippi’s only high end cigar bar in a place she believes is ready to boom, ”Location. Everybody says it’s about location. You know, the mall’s supposedly going in. We got high hopes for that. I think it’s brought a lot of people this way."

She’s talking about the “Outlet Shops of the Mid-South” slated to go in at the corner of Interstate 55 and Church Road.

Some site work is apparently ongoing, but some neighbors wonder if the mall will be ready to open next year as they expect.

While a lot of neighbors tell us they expected to see a little more work done, the City of Southaven says as far as infrastructure and site preparation, everything’s on track.

Southaven Planning Director Whitney Choat-Cook says it’s only been a little over two months since the mall got its final approvals and the City’s work is nearly complete.

”Site plan’s been approved, subdivision’s been approved and recorded, development has been recorded we’re seeing some dirt work going on out there from the overall developer, we’re full steam ahead”.

Business being what it is, delays can happen.

We contacted developers for an update, but didn’t get an immediate response.

Either way, Choate-Cook says there’s lots of interest in the property, ”If for some reason, this development doesn’t go through, there’s plenty to go on that site so we’re not worried about it."

That’s good news to neighbors who watch this space for progress every day.

”That’s gonna be a big business driver, from the construction point, all the way up to completion. I don’t not drive by on the interstate that I don’t look, come on, I wanna see dirt dug,” said Wadford.
