Gas Leak Sparks Strip Mall Fire
(Memphis) Investigators with the Memphis Fire Dept. are working to determine what caused a gas leak that led to a small fire at a North Memphis strip mall early Tuesday.
The fire broke out around 3 a.m. in the 3900 block of Jackson Ave. south of Wales Ave.
When firefighters arrived, the gas line behind the strip mall was on fire and had spread to a small section of the roof. MLGW crews were called in to shut off the gas.
There was only minor damage to the strip mall — mostly inside a Mexican bar.
No one was inside any of the businesses and no firefighters were injured.
