(Memphis) A Memphis man is accused of beating up his ex-girlfriend to get his hands on her tax refund.

Police say the woman's 9-month-old son was also hurt in the attack.

Officers say 22-year-old Chine Smith broke the glass door of his girlfriend's home in the 6500 block of Heatherwood Drive to get inside.

They say he wanted Lakeshia Price's $3,500 tax refund.

Investigators say Price's infant son had cuts to his face and hands from the shattered glass and Price had to get stitches on her chin after Smith threw her on the ground and beat her.

"The way my door looked it looked like somebody should have been seriously hurt, but everything was alright. I'm glad the good Lord was here to protect them," said Willie Lyons.

Willie Lyons, a truck driver, says he was clear across the country when he found out someone had broken into his home and hurt his daughter and grandson.

He's glad Smith is locked up and facing some serious charges.

"I'm glad they finally caught up with him," said Lyons.

Smith is facing two counts each of reckless endangerment, domestic assault and burglary.
