(Memphis) - A gunman is on the run after a double shooting in Frayser. Memphis Police try to figure out why a man opened fire on two people sitting in their car.
News Channel 3 was there as a woman was helped to a stretcher Sunday afternoon. Memphis Police say she was shot in what they call a rather random shooting.
“It’s kind of awful that she was shot in the head," Tanisha Cole, whose aunt lives across the street. “I heard it was like ten shots heard.”
Investigators say for whatever reason, the couple pulled over in front of a home on Egypt Central when someone in the car behind them got out, came up to the side of their car and opened fire.
“There was like three windows shot out of that car,” said Cole.
Investigators say both people in the car were hit. The victims took off. They drove to their home about a quarter-mile away on Redcliff Avenue, where they called 911. Early reports said the woman was shot in the head, while the man took a bullet to the chest. Both were rushed to the Med in critical condition.
While police look for a motive, they say the shooting doesn’t add up. Even investigators say they have more questions than answers.
“[People] get mad and go grab a gun,” said Cole. “It would be the first thing that would come to someone’s mind instead of trying to resolve it another way. There is always a better way.”
Anyone with information on who might have been pulling the trigger on that gun is urged to call police. It can be done anonymously with Crime Stoppers at 901.528.CASH.
