Accident Shuts Down Part of I-40 Bridge

(Memphis)  Icy conditions on the Hernando DeSoto Bridge led to a major traffic jam Thursday morning after a tractor trailer and a truck collided.

The accident happened just after 5 a.m. in the westbound lanes of Interstate 40 on the Memphis side of the bridge.

Memphis Police say ice left behind by sleet and freezing rain overnight likely played a role in causing the crash.

All lanes reopened mid-morning.
