Shelby County Assistant D.A. Named One of Top Animal Defenders

A Shelby County Assistant District Attorney will be named one of the country’s Top Ten Animal Defenders by the Animal Legal Defense Fund.

Abby Wallace will be honored during National Justice for Animals Week which is February 18-24.

The annual event is dedicated to raising awareness nationwide about how, ” citizens can work within their communities to achieve real justice for animal victims–and to honoring law enforcement, prosecutors, and legislators who give real teeth to laws protecting animals.”

In a release the groups says, “As an Assistant District Attorney General she doggedly pursued the perpetrators of abuse at the notorious Memphis Animal Shelter. Abby has initiated criminal prosecutions against the shelter, leading to two felony pleas, with others pending. Abby has prosecuted hundreds of cases involving homicide, sexual assault, crimes against children and the elderly, as well as animal cruelty. Currently, Abby is assigned to the Special Victims Unit where she specializes in prosecuting the sexual and physical abuse of children. Previously, Abby was assigned to the Special Prosecution Unit, where she began focusing on animal cruelty cases.”
