(Memphis) A Frayser family lost their home and their pets after someone set their house on fire late Thursday night.

Latoya McClain, her husband and daughter weren't home when the fire started in the 2800 Block of NorthMeade.

McClain said once the fire was out she realized someone had also ransacked their home and taken electronics, jewelry and clothing.

"I lost my two dogs. They didn't have the sense enough to put my dogs on the back porch," said McClain.

McClain says it appears the thieves got into her house through a back window and took whatever they could carry with them.

Investigators said multiple fires were set throughout the house.

"They didn't have to set the house on fire. They could have just taken what they wanted. Now I got to start over from scratch," said McClain.

Fort-five minutes after the fire on Northmeade, firefighters responded to a house fire a mile away on Pointe Church Road.

Initially, they thought the two fires might be connected.

Fire investigators say that fire is still under investigation, but it appears the fire started in the attic.

McClain said her family did not have renter's insurance which is affordable and will replaced belongings.
