(Memphis)  There’s a rapist on the loose in the Cordova area.

We asked Memphis police why they waited almost two months to warn the public and release a sketch.

They handed out the sketch to the media Wednesday even though the assault happened in mid-December

“Why didn’t they look for him before? Why is it coming up right now? I mean he’s still out there,” said Dottie Hogan, Cordova.

The attack happened during the height of the Christmas season, in a busy section of Cordova near Germantown Parkway and Dexter.

A 19-year-old female says a man forced her into the back of a 90’s model Honda Accord and attacked her.

A Memphis police spokesperson told us they waited until the victim was ready to come to the police department and give a statement.

She said they didn’t want to put any pressure on her because she was the victim.

Still, some of you say police could have at least alerted the public of the attack even if they weren’t ready to release all the information.

“Even if I didn’t have a picture of him, I still would want to know that was something to be aware of,” said Amy Childress, Cordova.
