Credit card users in certain states will now have to pay a fee when they swipe their cards at check-out.
This came about after a settlement between Visa, MasterCard and nine other banks.
Now, merchants can pass on new fees to customers which credit issuers normally made them pay.
The fee doesn’t apply to debit transactions and 10 states have laws restricting any type of surcharge fee.
Those states include California, Kansas and New York.
Tennessee, Mississippi and Arkansas weren’t on that list.
