(Hernando, MS) As Congress begins debating President Barack Obama’s new gun control legislation, several law enforcement leaders nationwide are coming out against the measure.
DeSoto County Sheriff Bill Rasco is among those against new gun control legislation. He outlined his opposition Thursday in this post on department’s official Facebook page:
As Sheriff of DeSoto County, I would like to say that we will not infringe on anyone’s constitutional rights or 2nd Amendment right. We feel the same as other sheriffs in the country that are standing up for the laws regarding the gun control issue.
The proposed gun control legislation currently under consideration on Capitol Hill would ban assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition clips.
President Obama’s push for stricter gun control laws began after last month’s deadly shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut.
