(Memphis)  A family of four managed to safely escape their burning home early Wednesday morning.

The fire broke out around 2 a.m. in the 5100 block of Judy Ann Ave. near Cottonwood and Mendenhall — in the Fox Meadows neighborhood.

A family member told News Channel 3 that she heard a popping sound just before the fire broke out. After noticing smoke, the two adults and two children got out OK.

It took firefighters about 20 to 30 minutes to put out the fire, which likely started in the garage area. The fire almost spread to the house next door, but firefighters were able to contain the damage to that house to only some melted siding.

The Red Cross has been called in to assist the family. Fire investigators are now working to determine the cause of the fire.
