Memphis, TN-Grizzlies forward Rudy Gay failed to get a game-winning shot off before the final horn sounded on Monday as the Grizzlies lost their annual Martin Luther King Day game at FedExForum to Indiana, 82-81.

Pacers guard George Hill hit a go-ahead free throw with 1.4 seconds left. Gay caught the inbounds pass from Mike Conley at the top of the key, but took a dribble to get a better look and couldn’t get the ball out of his hands before the buzzer. Grizzlies fans were momentarily excited because Gay’s shot actually banked in, but the officials ruled it came after the horn. Replays confirmed the call.

Grizzlies guard Wayne Ellington led all scorers with 17 points. Gay added 14 for the Grizzlies, who are now 26-14. They host the LA Lakers on Wednesday.
