(Memphis) A man sentenced to life in prison in the beating death of a Memphis toddler has now been sentenced on abuse charges connected to the case.

26-year-old Calvin Jones was found guilty of first degree murder, aggravated child abuse and aggravated child neglect charges in the beating death of 2-year-old Saniiyah Kuykendall.

The child was beaten to death in May of 2010 while Jones was supposed to be babysitting. Police say he beat the child with a shoe after she defecated on herself.

A jury convicted Jones in December.  He was automatically sentenced to life in prison on the murder charge.

On Thursday, a judge sentenced him to two, 20-year terms on the abuse charges. The sentences will be served concurrently with the life sentence.

The toddler’s mother, Anisha Alford, is charged with aggravated child abuse in the case. She’s accused of not seeking medical help after her daughter got sick after the attack. The child was found dead the next morning. Alford will be in court January 28th.
