(Memphis) A Memphis man is facing two counts of aggravated child abuse in the death of his three-year-old son.

Landon Stokes died yesterday at Le Bonheur from injuries he received to his head and body.

Jamie Jones told police he sent Landon to his car outside their apartment in the 4100 block of Rainbranch and when he came outside he found the toddler at the bottom of some stairs.

One neighbor, who didn't want be identified, said he never heard any commotion outside his door.

"If the boy fell down these steps there would be blood traces down there from him falling down here. There is just no way," said the neighbor.

Police aren't buying the father's story either.

Doctors say when Jones brought Landon to Le Bonheur the boy's injuries were several hours old and not consistent with a fall.

Neighbors are shocked something like this happened.

"It's horrible. I can't think of nobody doing anything like that to their baby," said Kesha Dooley.

Jones is being held in the Shelby County Jail on $750,000 bond.
