(Whiteville, TN) It looks like a river or stream, not a street, but that's just what's supposed to be here on Murphy Lane off Union Springs Road.
It's the only way in or out of a neighborhood and well the road just plain washed away.
"Two or three sections of 10 foot roadway actually peeled off and disappeared", said Police Chief Steven Stanley.
"There's a four or five foot drop off in that rapidly receding water".
The police chief tells us flooding has always been a problem back here and efforts to repair the problem have not worked.
County Road Superintendent David Sipes blamed a drainage ditch filled with sand, and red tape from state agencies tasked with clearing it out.
The people on the other side of the roadway, have no way out and police say it could be days before the roadway is reopened.
