Police Charge Woman in Mail Thefts, Three More Suspects Sought

(Memphis) A Memphis woman is behind bars after she allegedly stole dozens of checks from the East Mitchell Road Post Office branch in Whitehaven.

Chaiesha Smith, 24, was arrested on 11 warrants for forgery and theft after officers investigated more than 20 reports of stolen mail at the branch between September 2012 and January 2013.

Smith and three other suspects are accused of stealing the letters then forging and cashing the checks. Investigators issued warrants for Talisha Merritt, 25, Erica Joseph, 22, and Tiffany Williams, 28, in connection with the thefts.
