(Memphis) Police are looking for the person who shot and killed a 62-year-old woman on the 2100 block of Burnham Cove, Friday morning.
Standing by the crime tape, neighbor Lillie Riley clasped her hands, bowed her head and said a prayer. She said, “I asked God to put it on the heart of whoever did that to make them give themselves up, because it’s not right.”
According to detectives, a few people were arguing outside when they started shooting. The woman, who was hit by a stray bullet, just happened to be waiting to pick-up her brother and take him to the grocery store.
“We don’t know what the argument involved we just have vague descriptions,” said Lt. Col. Howell Starnes with the Memphis Police Department.
The shooters took off, leaving officers searching for clues and neighbors like Riley with heavy hearts.
“I feel sorrow and grief for the family of the person,” said Riley.
This is the fourth shooting in the area within a week.
A teenager was shot at a Frayser Community Center earlier this week. A family was also shot at in what police are calling a case of road rage. Last week, just around the corner, shots were fired as a funeral was getting out at Promise Land Church.
Officers are asking for your help. “If they don`t get involved we aren`t going to solve any of those cases,” said Starnes.
While most neighbors are calling the shootings out-of-hand, Riley said she feels safe and believes prayer can fix it all.
“Take it out of my hands and put it in his,” said Riley.
Anyone with information on any of the shootings is asked to call crime stoppers at (901) 528-CASH.
