Shelby, DeSoto Team Up for DUI Checkpoints

(Memphis)  The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office is teaming up with the DeSoto County Sheriff’s Department for two DUI checkpoints Friday night near the Tennessee-Mississippi state line.

The first checkpoint will be at Hacks Cross Rd. & Stateline Rd. from 8:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

Deputies will then move to Riverdale Rd. & Stateline Rd. for a second checkpoint from 11:30 p.m. to 1:30 a.m.Officers will check drivers for any signs of alcohol or drug intoxication. They will also check for other safety violations, including people driving without proof of insurance or without proper registration and driver’s licenses.According to statistics released by the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, 16,000 people are killed and another 305,000 are injured in drunk driving related incidents every year in the United States.
