(Sissonville, WV) A gas line explosion set an interstate and several homes on fire in West Virginia Tuesday.

The gas line ruptured under Interstate 77 near Sissonville.

The fire was so hot that the paved road and the guardrails melted.

Three homes were destroyed in the fire, two others were badly damaged.

Witnesses say the flames were shooting 90 feet in the air and the heat was intense.

Three people suffered smoke inhalation but there were no serious injuries.

The fire also knocked out power to nearly 10-thousand people.

It may take several days to repair Interstate 77, which is closed to traffic in both directions.
