(Tate County, MS) A body was discovered this morning in the woods off of Tate Marshall Road in Tate County.
The sheriff’s department believes the body belongs to 31-year-old Patrick Jones.
Jones disappeared from his home last Friday. Family friends believe he may have been targeted because of how he helped people.
They say Jones' house was robbed two weeks ago and believes the robbers may have come back for more and taken it too far.
“Justice,” said Mike Jones about his brother’s death. “If there's no justice, there's no peace."
Jones and about 30 others spent the last few days searching the area around his brother's home, hoping to find Patrick alive, “I was hoping for the best, but I kept expecting the worst.”
Jones disappeared Friday and a body was found in the woods near his home Thursday morning.
Investigators in Tate County have not confirmed the body belongs to Jones, but believe strongly that it`s him.
Family members say his body was found in a trash can.
“They didn`t have to leave him like they did in a trash can,” said Jermone Marion. “Patrick was not trash. He wasn't that type of guy.”
Friends believed someone targeted Jones because of his well-known generosity.
“That`s where all the homeless people go to,” said Jeremy Moore. “If you need a home, he would have helped you out. I don`t see why anyone would have done it.”
It's hard for Jermone Marion to understand why anyone would want to hurt his lifelong friend, “He would have given whatever you asked for, he would have given to somebody if you would have asked for anything, he would have given it to you. He helped you out.”
