(Memphis) The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office received final approval from county commissioners Monday that will allow it to spend two million dollars for additional School Resource Officers when Memphis and Shelby County schools merge.

The commission voted in favor of giving the department the money that will place 35 deputies at schools when the new Unified School District opens in the fall of 2013.

Many of the officers are already on the force but the money will help pay for additional officers that are needed to make sure each school has enough security to protect students.
