(Memphis) A 20-year old man is facing a number of charges after police say he fired several shots near the Porter Leah Douglas Head Start Monday afternoon.

Some of the bullets fired damaged cars in the parking lot, and one nearly hit a pregnant teenager who was walking by the school.

Mary Harris said her 18-year-old daughter was on her way home from Douglas High School when she heard the gunfire, tried to take cover, and fell on her stomach.

The teen told police she heard one of the bullets fly by her head.

Police said Antonio Chalmers told them someone was shooting at him and he fired back.

Chalmers has been charged with reckless endangerment, vandalism and unlawful possession of a weapon.

The pregnant teen was admitted to the hospital as a precautionary measure, but is expected to be fine.
