(Marshall County, MS) A grown man accused of doing the unthinkable, sexually assaulting a six-year-old girl.

We're told the little girl's family was visiting the man and that's when Marshall County Deputies say it happened.

The parents reported Charles Gene Davis to Byhalia, Mississippi Police, but it took several hours to find Davis before he was arrested.

No one answered the door at the house on Watson Road in Marshall County where investigators say 55-year old Charles Gene Davis lives.

Kelly McMillan, a Major with the Marshall County Sheriff's Office, says it's where Davis is accused of sexually assaulting a 6-year old girl November 18th while the youngster and her family were there, "The family was over visiting for a cookout, and there were several friends visiting over. And the child was inside the residence maybe taking a nap or going to sleep or whatever, until the family was ready to leave."

Major Kelly McMillan says the girl's parents filed a complaint with the Byhalia Police Department the same day.

The girl was taken to Le Bonheur Children's Hospital and then to the Memphis Rape Crisis Center.

Major McMillan says investigators went to Davis' home that night to question him, "Myself along with the lieutenant on patrol that night, and two of his other officers, went to that area in an attempt to locate Mr. Davis. We didn't locate him and he wasn't located until several hours later. So we believe that he fled the area."

After searching the area near Davis' home, he finally came back after ten hours and was arrested.

He was taken to the Marshall County Sheriff's Office and charged the next day with sexual battery.

Davis was released on a one hundred thousand dollar bond and will await action by the grand jury when it convenes in early 2013.
