Tennessee power forward Jarnell Stokes was named to the 2012 Puerto Rico Tip-Off All-Tournament Team Sunday after leading the Volunteers to a third-place finish at the event, averaging 15.0 points and 9.0 rebounds in three games.
The sophomore from Memphis, Tenn., had his best game of the tournament Sunday against UMass, as he scored a career-high 24 points on 7-of-12 shooting while pulling down 12 rebounds. It was his second double-double in Puerto Rico, as he totaled 14 points and 11 rebounds in UT’s victory over UNC Asheville on Thursday.
Joining Stokes on the All-Tournament Team was Tournament MVP Marcus Smart (Oklahoma State), Zeke Marshall (Akron), Le’Bryan Nash (Oklahoma State) and T.J. Warren (NC State).
More than half of Stokes’ total rebounds at the tournament were offensive boards (14 of 27). He shot .471 from the field in wins over UNC Asheville and UMass and a semifinal loss to Oklahoma State.
Stokes is a preseason All-SEC honoree this season and also appears on the watch lists for the prestigious John R. Wooden Award and the Naismith Trophy.
