(Memphis) Real estate developer William "Rusty" Hyneman did not speak with reporters as he walked into Division 10 of Shelby County General Sessions Court  this morning.

Hyneman is facing simple assault charges after Shelby County Sheriff's Deputies claim he back-handed his wife Caresse during an argument in the car Saturday morning.

The police report said Hyneman and his wife were arguing over his adult children when a tussle over a cell phone began.

Deputies claimed they observed an "abrasion and swelling" on Hyneman's wife Caresse's face.

Caresse told deputies Hyneman "struck me in my mouth with the back of his hand."

Deputies said Hyneman also had scratches on his arms.

"We have entered a plea of not guilty. He was arraigned and we’ve reset the matter," said Hyneman's attorney Steve Farese.

"It is a private matter, we hope to keep it that way," added Farese.

Hyneman was released on his own recognizance but he can not contact his wife until the matter is resolved.

"He’s embarrassed by the situation, so is his wife, but these things happen in life," said Farese.
